AGC Houston Honors Houston's Top Commercial Contractors with Prestigious APEX Awards

On May 22, 2021, Houston’s commercial construction industry celebrated the most outstanding projects built by AGC Houston members at the Awards for Project Excellence. The biennial event recognizes member companies for their consistent excellence in construction, their valuable contributions to the community, and their demonstrated commitment to skill, integrity, and responsibility. 23 general and specialty contractors took home 39 Gold, Silver, and Bronze APEX awards for outstanding building projects.

AGC members submitted 78 entries in categories that include healthcare and research, education, industrial, liturgical, hospitality, interiors, renovation, entertainment, sitework, and greenspace. Each entry had to have been completed between April 1, 2018 and March 31, 2020, within the 24 counties that compromise AGC Houston’s territory.

More than 40 qualified judges representing the architectural, engineering, and construction industry virtually reviewed each project. Each winning entry’s selection was based on quality of the management process in serving the client; contribution to the community and/or environment; safety records; site presentation; difficulty in construction; and completion within budget.

The event also honored John Kirksey, FAIA with the 2020 AGC Houston Master Builder Award. Kirksey founded Kirksey Architecture one year after graduating from the University of Texas with a mission to design high performing buildings that positively impact people, the environment, and the communities they serve. Over its 50 years of operation, Kirksey has grown a staff of over 130 with offices in Houston and Austin. Kirksey has been recognized with over 200 design and firm awards, including Firm of the Year by the Texas Society of Architects. In 2017, Kirksey Architecture was ranked as the number 10 firm in the United States by Architect Magazine.
